Depression : Cause, Effect and Oinment

Depression !!! Now-a-days, a very common phrase to all of us. After some incidents of suicide, specially after the dark, smelly side of the film industry has been revealed, it has become a very common thing to us. Now basically a person who have a depression, he or she already knows that what are his or her symptoms, or what are the effects of his or her depressions. But there are some people, basically they do not have any idea about what is a depression, but they shout too much. This article is basically from them, to give them a neutral clear idea about what is a depression, actually!
First of all, let me clear a basic thing that I do not have any depression, but there are many of my closest friends, who are suffering from this dangerous disease. There are some of my relatives too. I observed them very closely, came to know about their problem, about their personal mood swinging and some other stuffs. Some of them are suffering from these mental diseases partially, some completely. So this article is completely written with the experience and notes, that I had pointed out from their behavioral structures. I have also tried to figure out some curing process by myself. They are completely my personal opinion, taking or leaving is completely your decision.
Depression is a common mental health problem, that involves a low mood and a lcak of interest in doing works. If we go over the internet, we can find at least thousands of definitions about the depression. But the most common and easiest explanatory, that I have found is from the WHO website, "Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. Especially when long-lasting and with moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition. It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at school and in the family." Yes, depression is a disease, and it can be cured.
In our society, there are a large number of people, who do not have any type of idea, regarding these mental sickness or disease. They think that depressions, anxiety everything are just some kind of problems, and they are created by the individual people. These are just unbearable. whenever a person is suffering from cancer or some deadly disease, can someone tell his or her, that you have created this disease yourself? Is it sounds good!!!!
From the various surveys worldwide, the people of the third-world countries suffer much more in these kind of mental diseases, than the people of the first-world countries. Certainly there are some specific or common causes behind this. Some of them are classified below.

  • Family history - You’re at a higher risk for developing depression if you have a family history of depression or another mood disorder.
  • Early childhood trauma - Some events affect the way your body reacts to fear and stressful situations.
  • Brain structure - There’s a greater risk for depression if the frontal lobe of your brain is less active. However, scientists don’t know if this happens before or after the onset of depressive symptoms.
  • Medical conditions - Certain conditions may put you at higher risk, such as chronic illness, insomnia, chronic pain, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
  • Drug use - A history of drug or alcohol misuse can affect your risk.
Some other risk factors for depression include:
  • low self-esteem or being self-critical
  • personal history of mental illness
  • certain medications
  • stressful events, such as loss of a loved one, economic problems, or a divorce.
So the cause part is clear. Now coming to the effect part. Though there are some common effects, but the effects of depression for men, women and children are generally different.

Men may experience symptoms related to their:
  • mood, such as anger, aggressiveness, irritability, anxiousness, restlessness
  • emotional well-being, such as feeling empty, sad, hopeless
  • behavior, such as loss of interest, no longer finding pleasure in favorite activities, feeling tired easily, thoughts of suicide, drinking excessively, using drugs, engaging in high-risk activities
  • sexual interest, such as reduced sexual desire, lack of sexual performance
  • cognitive abilities, such as inability to concentrate, difficulty completing tasks, delayed responses during conversations
  • sleep patterns, such as insomnia, restless sleep, excessive sleepiness, not sleeping through the night
  • physical well-being, such as fatigue, pains, headache, digestive problems
Next, coming to the women, they may experience symptoms related to their:
  • mood, such as irritability
  • emotional well-being, such as feeling sad or empty, anxious or hopeless
  • behavior, such as loss of interest in activities, withdrawing from social engagements, thoughts of suicide
  • cognitive abilities, such as thinking or talking more slowly
  • sleep patterns, such as difficulty sleeping through the night, waking early, sleeping too much
  • physical well-being, such as decreased energy, greater fatigue, changes in appetite, weight changes, aches, pain, headaches, increased cramps
And last, but not least, in case of children:
  • mood, such as irritability, anger, mood swings, crying
  • emotional well-being, such as feelings of incompetence (e.g. “I can’t do anything right”) or despair, crying, intense sadness
  • behavior, such as getting into trouble at school or refusing to go to school, avoiding friends or siblings, thoughts of death or suicide
  • cognitive abilities, such as difficulty concentrating, decline in school performance, changes in grades
  • sleep patterns, such as difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much
  • physical well-being, such as loss of energy, digestive problems, changes in appetite, weight loss or gain
We can clearly notice that the symptoms are all common, but the effects of the symptoms are different. These can just go over our imagination.
Now the big question is that, is this curable? Yes, over meditation, medication prescribed by the doctors, a sufferer can be released from his sufferings. But here I think self willpower is a very important thing. If you do not wish to be released from this deadly bond, then nobody's prescription will work.
Famous philosopher and psychologist Sigmund Freud said that the mental patients should be partitioned from stable people, and cure them. On the other hand, philosopher Karl Marx said that, the unstable people should be greeted inside the society and cure them. Put aside who is right or wrong, but in this case, I agree with Marx. That is the reason why the self-willpower to get cured is so much important. Apart from this, here are some ways of getting cured :
  • Medications such as antidepressants, antianxiety, though have some otential side-effects
  • Psychotherapy to get rid of the negetivity
  • Light therapy, in which exposer to doses of white light is used to regulate the mood and the symptoms of depression.
  • Alternatives, like accupuncure or herbal suppliment can also help here.
  • Exersize, try to do, both the physical and mental, for atleast 30 minutes a day, it will keep the BMR in control, and keep the mind fresh.
  • And last but not least, Taking care of self, it helps a lot, sometimes more than just tablets and capsules. This includes getting plenty of sleep, eating a healthy diet, avoiding negative people, and participating in enjoyable activities.
So, everyone should keep in mind that this is a curable thing, just please do not separate the patient from everydays normal life. He or she is just a normal person, with some mental disease. And moreover, if you have some trouble with your mental health, please do not hesitate to tell your nearest person, and seek help of a doctor. Yes, if you willn't delay, it is totally curable.
