Top 5 Drama Movies You Shouldn't Miss

Movies have a special language that is universal, not regional. Most of us like different kinds of movies, irrespective to the genre, the language, the ratings and all. My favorite genre is drama. Actually I like different shades in a movie. Exactly for this same reason, psychological thriller, or psychological horror is also a favorite genre of mine. There are so mane shades, like shades of life, shades of relation, shades of mental stability and many others. Almost all of them can be found in drama movies. Here is a list of top 5 drama movies, that I have seen and I like the most. They are from different countries, and consist of different languages. Here I have also provided the links of the movies as much as possible, so that you can take a peek at these beautiful masterpieces.

1. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION :

Movie posterBased on a mind-blowing novel by Stephen King, and directed by Frank Darabont, The Shawshank Redemption is my all time most favorite drama movie. The story is surrounded in a prison, named Shawshank State Penitentiary, with two main characters: Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) and Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman). Andy was sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Then he built a friendship with Ellis, who was sentenced for smuggling. Eventually the movie passed by, and we see that Andy is telling Ellis that he want to flew away from this jail, which was almost impossible. But he did it, actually he did it. He also wrote a note to Ellis, regarding his address, so that Ellis can met him, after his release. You have to see the movie to know that how possibly can Andy flew away.
The movie have some different kinds of shades. Basically we have an expectation, that a prison drama will have some thriller, or action. Well, there is no action, but it is definitely a thriller, which gives us a twist, at the end. Overall, a well worthy movie to watch.

2. THE GREEN MILE :

The second movie of my list is also a masterpiece by Frank Darabont and written by Stephen King. It is also a prison drama, surrounded in a most devastating prison, Green Mile, where only the persons with life sentence were kept. The story-line is based on two main characters: Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who was a death row corrections officer and a victim, named John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a physically imposing but mentally challenged black man. John had been sentenced to death after being convicted of raping and murdering two white girls. After some moments, a strange power of Coffey was unleashed. He had an amazing power of suck other's disabilities or painful diseases into himself. He had a very emotional power in himself, and his only friend was a little mouse, named Mr. Jingles. Allover, he is a strange character. The movie is completely based on a strange relationship among a prison officer, and a life sentenced prisoner, and a small mouse.
In this epic drama, you will not find any action, thriller is there obviously, but in a complete packaging with emotion and supernatural. We understand that the emotion, or the relation is much more necessary and superlative, than job or duty. Obviously a worthy movie to watch.

3. THROUGH THE OLIVE TREES :

Though here this is third in the list, but I can put it in first position. This masterpiece was written and  directed by Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. The movie has been set in earthquake-ravaged Northern Iran. The plot is like this: Hossein Rezai plays a local stonemason-turned-actor. Outside the set of a film in which he is acting, he makes a marriage proposal to his leading lady, a student named Tahereh, who was orphaned by an earthquake. Because he is poor and illiterate, the girl's family finds his offer insulting; the girl avoids him as a result. She continues evading him even when they are filming, as she seems to have trouble grasping the difference between her role in the film and her real-life self. The fictional couple takes part in what would be the filming of Life, and Nothing More.... The situation complicates further as Hossein still pursues the affections of the young actress while the film goes on. The director learns about this and tries to advise Hossein about what to do. He then illustrates their story and where the conflict began. The girl manages to finish the scene while Hossein woos her and then departs by walking as Hossein runs to follow her. Finally in the last scene, at a great distance, the girl finally gives an answer to Hossein and we are left with him running through a green field and back into the olive grove, and it ends.
Here the main shade is love, and the conflict of characterization. The possession of money over love is also shown here. A well-worthy movie to watch.

4. THE APU TRILOGY :

The Apu trilogy is one of the best revolutionary and groundbreaking movies of all time, in the history of Indian cinema. This trilogy is consisted of three movies, named Pather Panchali, Aparajito, and Apur Sangsar; directed by One of the best director in Indian cinema Satyajit Ray. Pather Panchali and Aparajito was written by eminent bengali writer Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay. The music was composed by Pandit Ravi Shankar. The three films comprise a "coming of age" narrative in the vein of a bildungsroman; they describe the childhood, education and early maturity of a young Bengali named Apu (Apurba Kumar Roy) in the early part of the 20th century. The different shades of life, sadness, life of poor, enjoying the dream are depicted in these. Obviously a well worthy to watch.

5. SADMA :

This is a special type of movie, where seriousness is not present, but an unconditional love is present everywhere throughout the movie, in packaging of laughter. It is that type of movie, where you will laugh, as well as cry, for an unconditional happy emotion. Sadma is written, directed and filmed by Balu Mahendra, starring Sridevi, Kamal Hasan, Gulshan Grover and Silk Smitha. The movie is surrounded with Sridevi's amnetia desease, due to which, she was nothing more than child, by her mind. Kamal Hasan got her from a brothel and took her to his home. He took every bit of careness for the well being of Sridevi, and gradually love was generated in his mind. But unfortunately, after getting cure, Sridevi couldn't even remember Kamal Hasan, she just took him as nothing more than a stranger.
The main shade here is the tragedy and satire of fate. Kamal and Sridevi's acting touched the inner core of the heart. Obviously a well-worthy movie to watch.
